It's Peel Season - What You Need to Know About ZO Skin Health Chemical Peels

We all know the importance of maintaining a proper skin regimen to keep our skin looking healthy and bright. But sometimes we need an extra boost to get our desired results. ZO Skin Health Chemical Peels offer many benefits and can give you exactly what your skin needs to bring it back to a smooth, youthful state.

A chemical peel is a procedure that provides strong exfoliation to the top layer of the skin to enable skin’s natural process of healing and restoration. Peels can treat a range of skin concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and yneven skin tone and texture.

How does a chemical peel work?

Chemical peels work by removing the outer-most-layer of your skin with a solution that consists of different acid-bases. This layer contains dead skin cells, UV damage, uneven texture, and fine lines. When this layer is removed, fresh, new skin is revealed leaving skin smoother brighter, and more even.

Depending on what your skin issue is, your provider can create the perfect chemical peel for you. These peels can be adjusted to penetrate deeper or more superficially depending on the desired results.

ZO 3-STEP PEEL:

Step 1: This three-step service starts with your in-office peel containing 5% lactic acid, 17% salicylic acid, and 10% TCA. This peel utilizes a blend of exfoliants, retinol and multi-action agents to help improve skin health and treat many signs of aging.

Step 2: Then you will go home and continue the process utilizing ZO Retinol Creme. This will reduce fine lines and wrinkles while firming your skin and promoting cellular turnover.

Step 3: The final step will also take place at home using ZO Calming Creme. This step will aid in moisturizing with hyaluronic acid and will also stimulate collagen production and protect the skin as a barrier.

What to know before your Chemical Peel

  • Depending on the strength of your peel, you may experience some discomfort during your service. This may feel like tingling.

  • The healing time will vary. Again, this will depend on the strength of your peel. A more superficial peel may result in little to no healing time, while a deep peel that penetrates deeper levels of the skin may result in a couple of weeks of redness and/or swelling.

  • If possible, avoid direct sunlight. Since you will be exposing new skin, it will be extremely photosensitive which will make it more susceptible to UV damage.

  • During your healing process, you may experience a couple of days of rough skin that may be a little red and possibly itchy. You can then expect the surface layer of your skin to start peeling. It's important not to pick or peel the skin and let if slough off on it's own.

  • Consider an add-on. ZO Skin Health has serums that can be added to your peel service to customize your results. Talk to your provider to see what add-on would work best for you.

  • If you've recently had any services done to your skin such as IPL or microdermabrasion, be sure to inform your provider as you will have to wait until your skin is fully healed.
